Q&A: What to write for resume objective when don’t know what position applying for?
Question by Amy: What to write for resume objective when don’t know what position applying for?
I’m writing up my resume but I don’t know what to write for my objective statement. I don’t know what position I’m applying for. I just want work experience or a general job position.
So far this is what I wrote for my objective:
“To obtain a job position or an internship for the purpose of gaining work experience”
How does that sound? Advice please!

That sounds like one of those stereotypical bad objectives. Employers don’t like things that general. Giving the impression that you’d use to the same resume to apply for a job at a restaurant and at the electric company looks really bad on you because it gives the impression that you don’t care about the industry they are in and that you are too lazy.
I would alter the objective so you can be sure to really fit the place you are applying to. If you can’t make it more specific, it should be deleted from your resume alltogether. It’s obvious you are looking for work and want to gain experience- you don’t need to tell the reader something painfully obvious.
