I need help writing a new resume..?
Question by Tori: I need help writing a new resume..?
I’ve worked in retail for 3 years, but recently started working as a receptionist for a home remodeling company. Unfortunately, the company had to make a few cuts because of the budget.. and I was the most recent “cut”… However, the job has left me with a decent list of references. But I haven’t had to write a resume in years. Can someone give me a hand here? Like.. what do I put as my “Objective“.. And for someone like me who had to drop out of school early to start working.. but has been working straight for over 3 years now.. how do you make that sound good? I need an answer soon! Please help..

Tori,
I think its best for you to focus on writing a resume that highlights your skills. This is called a functional resume. Since you were not on the job long, and you had to leave school early to begin working, you can minimize that information, and really play up on the skills you have acquired from your jobs.
Although it can take alot of time, I try to tailor my objective towards the actual position that I am seeking. You can do a google or yahoo search for “resume objectives” and that should give you some solid examples of objective statements.
It may also be good to contact your references and have them to write you recommendation or reference letters to attach to your resume.
Hope this helps!
