How do I write a resume and apply for a job?
Question by Catstrff: How do I write a resume and apply for a job?
I’m 16, a junior in high school with no prior job experience. I don’t know how to even start writing a resume since there is almost nothing to put in it. Help? Can you also explain the steps to apply for a job? (I live in new york, if that helps) Thanks,

An entry level job for a teen with no experience doesn’t require a resume – nor is one expected. You’re right, you have nothing to put on it. Decide on the businesses you think you’d like to work for, go in at a time of day when they are least busy and ask for an application. Take it home to fill it out. You’ll need a few references so be thinking of who you would use – a favorite teacher, your minister, coach, a friend of your parents – it should be an adult who knows you well and has good things to say about your character. Never use one of your friends or a relative as a reference. Make sure to ask those people if they mind if you use them as a reference, so they’ll be prepared when they get a call from the employer. Return the application at the least busy time of day. Look presentable each time you go to the business. They’ll look it over and if they are interested and hiring they’ll call you in for an interview. When you go to the interview don’t wear shorts or short skirt, low cut top, flip flops, faded jeans etc. Have clean hair & nails. Don’t chew gum. Turn off your cell phone. Shake hands when meeting the employer. Look at him when you speak. Thank him for his time when you leave. Good luck.
